Textile Recycling: Get a Bin and Get Paid for Recycling

Recycling at school now goes beyond bottles and cans, and textile recycling is being used by some schools to raise funds while helping others.

7th Generation Recycling offers bins to schools for collecting and recycling clothes, shoes, and household textiles -- and pays schools 2 cents a pound for them. They pick up the recyclables regularly, take them back to a warehouse for sorting, and ship the used textiles to countries where second hand clothes are desperately needed. Redondo Beach Unified School District diverted 23,383 pounds of textiles from landfills from May 1, 2010 through October 15, 2010!
